Wikipedia. La brecha profunda. Parte 4/ Wikipedia. The deep gap. Part 4

Wikipedia parece estar haciendo un gran esfuerzo para disminuir las brechas de género. Sin embargo, algunas brechas son mucho más profundas y estructurales. Mi experiencia al intentar ser mujer escribiendo sobre mujeres.

A medida que avanzo en el aprendizaje de wikipedia y sus estructuras, también avanzan conmigo las dificultades personales para continuar. Pocos miden esas brechas a la hora de pensar en la participación de las mujeres. Trabajamos más, investigamos y publicamos menos. No lo digo yo, pero lo pienso y lo vivo. Así, con este contexto, hacer es un milagro.

Durante la pandemia no solo ha disminuido la productividad académica de las mujeres. De aquellas que tienen el privilegio de… También se han agravado las situaciones de violencia. Ni falta hace referenciarlas. No lo haré, se vuelve doloroso. Lo que más me pone a pensar es que esta sensación de violencia y maltrato es una constante que nos atraviesa no solo en carne, también en bit. ¿Por qué en wikipedia se visualizan situaciones de violencia? ¿Por qué una mujer que aprende a editar tiene que tolerar el destrato de un usuario (varón) que descubre errores y se toma el tiempo de señalarlos en un texto extenso que pudiera haber sido didáctico y se convirtió en un agravio innecesario? ¿Cuándo cambiamos enseñar por agredir o humillar? ¿Cómo se construyen los contenidos colaborativos, democráticos, plurales e igualitarios frente a este tipo de situaciones? Estamos viendo una costumbre hostil y no creo que sea sano normalizar este tipo de situaciones.

He observado maltratos a mujeres de parte de varones que no conozco, pero me descolocó totalmente leer que un varón que sí conozco, avalara por omisión y respuesta en discusión, una situación incómoda. Creo que en el rol que le ocupa a esta persona, esto nunca debiera haber ocurrido. He leído cuestionamientos a la campaña #1bib1ref y a campañas de edición sobre género. Sobre la primera, se cuestionan las métricas. Sobre la segunda, se cuestionan las “entradas muertas”. Esto ha derivado en respuestas muy desafortunadas. Antes de defender cualquier argumento, empatía, por favor.

Más allá de la validez de estos cuestionamientos, algunos de los cuales merecen ser analizados, ¿cuándo las personas se volvieron tan tiranas? Creo firmemente que el diálogo, el aprendizaje y la construcción, solo es genuina cuando es respetuosa. Se que Wikipedia también lo cree, y eso es un aliciente.

Wikipedia seems to be making a great effort to decrease gender gaps. However, some gaps are much deeper and more structural. My experience trying to be a woman writing about women.

We are seeing a hostile habit and I do not think it is healthy to normalize this type of situation.

I have observed mistreatment of women by men I do not know, but I was totally disconcerted to read that a man I do know endorsed by omission and response in discussion, an uncomfortable situation. I think in this person’s role, this should never have happened. I have read questions about the # 1bib1ref campaign and gender editing campaigns. On the first, the metrics are questioned. The second, the “dead entries” are questioned. This has led to very unfortunate responses. Before defending any argument, empathy, please.
Beyond the validity of these questions, some of which deserve to be analyzed, when did people become so tyrannical? I firmly believe that dialogue, learning and construction is only genuine when it is respectful. I know Wikipedia believes it too, and that is an incentive.
