Brecha de género, wikipedia y día del bibliotecario

El 13 de septiembre en Argentina es el día del bibliotecario. No se trata de esa persona que tiene super poderes en wikipedia, pero seguramente ha inspirado su nombre.

Desde hace varios meses comenzamos a escribir sobre mujeres bibliotecarias en wikipedia. El objetivo era que mujeres carguen mujeres, en este caso, presidentas de IFLA. Una forma de reducir las brechas de género en la gran enciclopedia. Como mujeres, experimentamos muchas desigualdades al querer escribir, al escribir y al pensar sobre lo que escribimos. Sin dudas. No es sencillo intentar ser mujer wikipedista en un submundo de pequeñas competencias por quien puede corregir más puntos y comas. Un oropel estadístico. Sin certezas. Comenzamos un camino que no sabemos hacia donde va, que lo caminamos como podemos, a veces con piedras, a veces en subida. Pero caminamos.

¿Y cómo seguimos? Alguien propuso seguir cargando bibliotecarias que admiremos mucho en América Latina. Y su nombre vino como un impulso, hace ya más de 3 meses. Y el tiempo se hizo eterno, porque la cuesta se hizo empinada y por momentos se convirtió en montaña. Pero las dificultades del tiempo no fueron en vano. Cercanos a esta fecha se tornó mucho más valioso poder contar su historia y hacer este pequeño homenaje en vida, porque es un momento de celebración a toda una vida dedicada al servicio de nuestras comunidades, desde la sencillez y el compromiso social.

Descubrimos que wikipedistas no son solo las personas que tienen usuario en la enciclopedia. Hemos hallado grandes wikipedistas off-line que han hecho posible nuestra tarea. Bibliotecarias que han buscado información en archivos locales de la ciudad e incluso conseguido la colaboración de familiares para recuperar información valiosa.

Las brechas, por un momento, se han borrado. Un equipo de mujeres y hombres de a pie, de a pulmón, han proyectado un sistema de aprendizaje y práctica, de debate y enseñanza. De igualación de oportunidades, de equidad.

Hoy, 13 de septiembre, queremos dar nuestra salutación por el día del bibliotecario en Argentina, celebrando y compartiendo la biografía de una mujer bibliotecaria que admiramos muchísimo por su capacidad de gestión, dedicación y valor humano. Un sentido homenaje en español, inglés y catalán para que el mundo conozca a Sonia de Francisco, la bibliotecaria de Mar del Plata que ha sembrado el sistema de bibliotecas municipales en su ciudad y trabajado por equidad desde los tiempos más difíciles.

Gender gap, wikipedia and librarian day

September 13 in Argentina is Librarian’s Day. It is not about that person who has super powers on wikipedia, but it has surely inspired his name.

For several months we began to write about women librarians on Wikipedia. The goal was for women to carry women, in this case, IFLA presidents. One way to narrow the gender gaps in the great encyclopedia. As women, we experience many inequalities in wanting to write, in writing, and in thinking about what we write. Without a doubt. It is not easy trying to be a Wikipedian woman in an underworld of small competitions for those who can correct more semicolons. A statistical tinsel. Without certainties. We begin a path that we do not know where it is going, that we walk as we can, sometimes with stones, sometimes uphill. But we walked.

And how do we continue? Someone proposed to continue loading librarians that we greatly admire in Latin America. And her name came as an impulse, more than 3 months ago. And time became eternal, because the slope became steep and at times it became a mountain. But the difficulties of time were not in vain. Close to this date it became much more valuable to be able to tell their story and make this small tribute in life, because it is a moment of celebration to a lifetime dedicated to the service of our communities, from simplicity and social commitment.

We discovered that Wikipedians are not just the people who have a user in the encyclopedia. We have found great off-line Wikipedians who have made our task possible. Librarians who have searched for information in local city archives and even enlisted the collaboration of family members to retrieve valuable information.

The gaps, for a moment, have been erased. A team of ordinary men and women, by heart, have designed a system of learning and practice, of debate and teaching. Of equalization of opportunities, of equity.
Today, September 13, we want to salute the Librarian’s Day in Argentina, celebrating and sharing the biography of a female librarian that we greatly admire for her management skills, dedication and human value. A heartfelt tribute in Spanish, English and Catalan so that the world knows Sonia de Francisco, the Mar del Plata librarian who has seeded the municipal library system in her city and worked for equity since the most difficult times.
